How to Add a Favicon to Wix

Every Wix site should use a custom favicon instead of the default Wix icon. A favicon appears in browser tabs, bookmarks, and Google search results, helping visitors recognize your site quickly. Wix manages favicon uploads from your site dashboard.

Before You Start

Wix requires a Premium plan, a connected domain, and a published site before you can add a custom favicon. If the favicon upload option is missing, check those three requirements first.

Step 1: Prepare Your Favicon Image

Wix accepts ICO, PNG, JPG, and SVG favicon files for your site favicon. For Google search result compatibility, Wix recommends using a JPG or PNG with a square 1:1 ratio and dimensions that are a multiple of 48px, such as 48x48, 96x96, 192x192, or 512x512. SVG files do not need to follow the 48px multiple rule for the site favicon.

For most Wix sites, use a simple 512x512 PNG. It gives Wix a high-quality source image to resize and supports transparent backgrounds. Create one with our favicon generator or favicon converter. If you used favicon.io, upload the android-chrome-512x512.png file.

Step 2: Open Website Settings

Sign in to Wix and open your site's dashboard. Go to Settings, then click Website settings. This is where Wix manages the site name, domain, social image, and favicon.

Step 3: Upload Your Favicon

Find the Favicon section and click Upload Image. Choose your favicon file, then click Choose File. Wix will use that image as the browser tab and bookmark icon for your published site.

Step 4: Save and Verify

Click Save, then open your published site in a new incognito window. If the old favicon still appears, wait a few minutes and hard refresh the page. Browser favicon caching can be stubborn, so an incognito window is usually the fastest test.

Step 5: Check Google Search Results

Google may take time to update the favicon shown in search results. Make sure your uploaded image follows Google's square 48px-multiple guidance, then wait for Google to recrawl your site. To speed that up, you can resubmit your sitemap in Google Search Console. Wix cannot guarantee exactly when Google will show the updated favicon.

Troubleshooting

• Favicon option missing: Confirm your site has a Premium plan, connected domain, and published version.
• Favicon not showing in the browser tab: Clear your browser cache and hard refresh, or test in an incognito window.
• Favicon looks blurry: Upload a larger square source image. A 512x512 PNG works well for most Wix sites.
• Transparent background not working: Upload the favicon as a PNG or SVG. JPG files do not preserve transparency.
• Favicon not showing in Google: Use a square JPG or PNG with 48px-multiple dimensions, confirm search engines can index your homepage, and resubmit your sitemap in Google Search Console. Search result favicons are controlled by Google, not Wix.
